It's Fiona's birthday on 1st August marking her 51st year as a Vegan With multiple marathon wins under her belt, including at the North Pole & in Antarctica, 3 times finisher of the notorious marathon des sables, plus no less than 4 Guinness World Records - despite having a knee replacement and no kneecap - Fiona is an incredible example of what can be achieved without consuming meat & dairy Fiona is one of the very few athletes who can demonstrate "Longevity" of veganism together with World Record Standard athletic performance - in addition to caring for 500 rescues! Unfortunately, Fiona's animal shelter is in a bad place financially as over the past few years regular monthly support has fallen due to the economy and feed prices have rocketed resulting in a situation where running costs are exceeding donations by around £6k a month Sanctuary running costs work out at £2 per animal per day - which given the number of large animals is very economical, but with 500 rescues that's £30,000 to find each month - in addition to special projects like tractors and new shelters etc The £6k shortfall sounds like a lot, but its 300 people doing a fiver a week - spread over a lot of people helping, it is achievable In the meantime, we are using our reserves to cover the shortfall, but these won't last.
