A Mother’s Plea: Anyone that knows me, knows that asking for help is my very LAST resort. Today, I ask for your help to save my daughters from their own father. Some may know that I’m going through a divorce which is a costly endeavor under any circumstance. If you have a few minutes, take a walk with me, back to October 2023. After years of abuse, I finally had the strength to divorce my husband. For the sake of our daughters, I prayed for an amicable divorce. His response was to become more abusive to me and my girls. It was non-stop, day and night. Things escalated quickly and the abuse got worse by the second. I needed a safe place for me and my children. In the end, I was paying for two households because my husband was not working at the time. One weekend, I decided to stay away from the home my husband and I shared. I just to needed to clear my mind, away from the chaos, and breathe. By the following Monday, October 23rd, our 11yo daughter needed some items for school. We had to return to the house. While anxiety and fear rushed over me, I prayed that the past three days of no-contact with my husband would be enough time for him to settle down and we could have a civil discussion about the next steps towards a divorce. On the short car ride from the apartment to the house, I had a sudden urge to go live on Facebook. I NEVER go live on Facebook! I rarely post anything, really. The urge was so strong that I had to trust my gut and we went live. Only the grace of God saved us from what happened next. At the house, it seemed eerily quiet and normal. My mother-in-law was sleeping on the couch and my husband was in the bedroom. I felt a little relieved that we didn’t walk into the usual barrage of threats and yelling. While gathering items from my closet, my husband started yelling. Quickly, I turn around, thinking ‘here we go again’.. but this time, it was different. In a split second, I realize he had a loaded weapon pointed at both my girls! What do I do?! How do I get him to point the gun at me? Do I tackle him? No, I can’t do that – what if he pulls the trigger? Remain calm. No sudden movements. Get in between my girls and the gun. The wave of emotions and thoughts that filled me in that second, I cannot fully explain. Even as I write this plea for help a year later, I can still hear my 11yo cry in horror and I see the fear that washed over her face as her father pointed a gun at her and her sister. Two fingers on the trigger. It replays in my head. Every. Single. Day. Due to the trauma, my children meet with a therapist. An expense that I pay out-of-pocket because my husband removed them from his insurance. They live in fear that he might show up one day. The protection order is only a piece of paper and he’s never obeyed these orders in the past. Since filing for divorce, I’ve spent $25,000 on legal fees alone, fighting to keep my girls safe. That doesn’t include the every day necessities that growing children require. My husband has delayed the divorce process, failed to negotiate in good faith, and continues to lie in court. Due to these dirty tactics, my legal funds have been depleted. Wasted, on negotiations he never intended to settle. Now, we head to trial. My husband is fighting for custody of our girls – even though he threatened their lives. The trial is the last step to finalizing this divorce and getting custody orders in place. I need your help with the last $10,000 for legal fees – due in two weeks. Being the sole provider (physically, emotionally and financially), my financial well has run dry.
