Hello! This is our 7 month old German Shepherd puppy, Odin. Up until April 29th, Odin was a completely healthy and happy pup. That was the first time Odin saw the emergency vet. He was nauseous, vomiting, and had bloody diarrhea. We knew right away something was off. After coming home that night with anti-nausea medication, he quickly started to decline. the following morning he was taken to the emergency vet again for similar symptoms while accompanied with extreme lethargy. He was hospitalized right away and later that afternoon went into emergency surgery. The veterinarians did not know what was going on at that point even with several tests and imaging. After a successful surgery, the veterinarian said he had intussusception of the intestines, which is essentially when the intestines fold in on each other like pulling out a telescope, the reason for why this was/is happening was unknown. They had to take out part of his intestines and he was able to come home after a few days with strict at home care. He was doing very well up until May 12th when he started to have similar symptoms like first time around. He went to the emergency vet for the third time within two weeks and was hospitalized overnight. However, this time around they were not able to confidently pinpoint the issue. Odin had to see a specialty vet in order to get more testing done to see if there was something they would be able to do. After more imaging and testing at the specialty vet, they said Odin has intussusception of the intestines again. He had to go into emergency surgery twice within two weeks in order to save his life. Before going into his second surgery, Odin was all smiles. he was determined to take on anything that was thrown his way. Due to his high spirits and positive attitude, we knew that we had to do everything in our power to give this happy guy another chance at being a puppy and living a full life. After taking out more of his intestines, the second surgery was a success. Odin is continuing to recover at home and he is doing very well. We know that we still have a long road ahead with seeing internal medicine specialists, a new strict feeding schedule, and just living everyday with uncertainty. Despite this, we are trying to stay positive because Odin is so eager to get back to his daily routines and live life again. With all of the emergency vet visits and two emergency surgeries, there has been a significant financial burden. We appreciate any donations you could make to help with Odin's medical bills.
