update: the hospital discharged me... I got temporarily accepted to a migrant support center LOL. If it weren't for my wife's support by my side, I wouldn't have been accepted because I have trouble getting into my wheelchair by myself. What happens to people that get discharged from hospitals after getting paralyzed and have no family or other outside support? If anyone can advise me, please do.

Hi fellow philanthropists. I say this because I'm always helping people out, but it seems like I am on the other side of the story today. My story begins at the beginning of this year, January 2025. I thought I had the flu at the beginning of January because I had a fever, head and chest congestion, aches and pains all over my body, and the regular regimen that people take or set out on to get over the flu seemed to be working. Well, the congestion and fever went away, but the aches and pains stayed. As a matter of fact, the aches and pains continued getting worse and became centered on my lower back and parts of my pelvis. The pain became so bad that at one point, on or about the 15th of January, I was at a clinic for a visit, and I asked them to call an ambulance so I could go to the hospital and get checked out.
The staff at the clinic called an ambulance, and they came and took me to University Medical Center, which is considered one of the best trauma centers in El Paso. For those of you from outside of El Paso, it's also the county hospital, which I figured I'd have to go to since my insurance had expired. Lo and behold, after x-rays, a CT scan, and blood tests, the team of neurologists in charge of my case found an aggressive infection had invaded my spine and was wreaking havoc on it, even to the point of causing fractures in my L4 & L5 vertebrae and, by this time, paralysis in my legs.
One of the doctors on the neurology team came in and talked to me and asked me if I had any objections to having surgery performed on my back to get rid of the infection. This scared me to the bone, but I answered with a "no," but only if it was going to leave my spine normal and not mess it up even more than the infection had already messed it up. Well, the next day, the other three doctors on the neurological team assigned to my case came and talked to me and told me that surgery should be a very last-case scenario because it looked like, from the CT scans, that surgery would do more harm than good. It was decided to move me to the UMC Surgical Hospital for the long haul and start me on IV antibiotics given through what's called a PICC line, which is an IV that empties into the heart. Well, here I am about 5 weeks later and about to be discharged on or about February 21st. I have since signed up for insurance through Obamacare, but that won't go into effect until the 1st of March. I still can't walk despite daily physical therapy exercises and practices, but I do see hope as, little by little, I'm starting to get the feeling back in my feet and my legs. I exercise day and night trying to regain strength in my legs. I do expect one day soon to be walking normally again because I am not a quitter. I plan to live up to my nickname "Invincible." I'm a winner, and I'm going to win this battle, especially since I have the greatest doctor and surgeon to ever set foot on Earth in my corner. You may know Him by the name Jesus, but I call Him by his Jewish name, Yahushah, being a faithful Jew myself.
Since I've been in the hospital for so long, I have lost the place I was staying at, and I've heard that I lost everything that I had in that apartment. This is part of the reason that I'm starting this GoFundMe account. The other reason is that since I don't have insurance, I'm going to need some help getting some mobility devices and help with prescriptions, transportation, and shelter. I will apply for Social Security disability benefits upon discharge from the hospital, but we know that the SSI process can get drawn out. The most important thing on my list is a wheelchair.
