Donate to Help to Support Shawn Wells Road to Recovery, organized by Regina Wells

Hello, My name is Regina Wells and I am here to tell our story. Me and My Husband Shawn Wells have been married for 15 years. We have 2 children a son 10 years old and a baby girl 10 months old. We was doing great until when the unexpected happened ... Our lives changed at the blink of an eye. On August 20, 2023 my husband suffered a massive stroke and had to be airlifted to Memphis, TN. Upon receiving this news I had to travel to Memphis by vehicle to get to where my husband was which was Baptist East in Memphis. I had just had our daughter the month before so I had to make some tough decisions and fast. With the severity of his stroke he had to have part of his skull removed to allow the brain to swell to save his life. He stayed in the hospital from Aug 20th to Sept 22 then from there he was admitted into Baptist Inpatient Rehab in Germantown Tn. All the while me traveling two and half hours back and forth every week to be home with the kids and be with him during this whole journey to recovery. While he was in the Rehab hospital he received extensive therapy 4 days out the week upon his stay. He received Speech therapy to help with his Aphasia, and Physical and Occupational Therapy to help with him being hemiplegic on the right side. It had definitely helped with his recovery. He was forced to wear a helmet to protect his head from injury because a piece of his skull was out. He stayed there from Sept 22 until October 25th. I was so scared when they was speaking about sending him home all I could think about how would I handle this with also having two small kids to take care of and he definitely didn't need to fall. He then came home on Oct 25th. He was able to continue therapy from home with Home Health. The swelling of his brain finally went down enough for them to put his skull back in December 13th. Which was another extensive surgery he had to undergo. I was so glad to have been able to keep him some medical insurance because the job he was at didn't have any so I had to pay a premium every two weeks which was very costly. I have applied for his disability which we are still waiting on them in which it can take months. Me being his wife I have been unable to return to work at this moment because he is not able to complete day to day duties on his own and can't be left alone by himself due to him having Aphasia. Due to his Aphasia his communication is very difficult to understand but it is getting better with continued therapy. And his judgment is not always accurate. He is still continuing Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy in a outpatient rehab twice a week. This has definitely been a roller coaster ride. But, everything is getting better by the day. We are so thankful you took the time to read our story. Asking for help is not something that comes easy, but the journey Shawn is on is long, unpredictable, and extremely expensive. Your generosity will help Shawn and family to get the care he needs and help with household bills as well over the next couple of months and also supplies not covered by insurance, therapies, travel and transportation costs, and emergencies. Just help in all aspects of his recovery. It will definitely take a ton of stress off of the family not having to worry about the need for the necessities. We Thank each and everyone that is able to help us by any donation or just sharing our story. We are forever thankful. Read more
