Donate to Help mijn zoon aan een aangepaste opmaat gemaakte rolstoel., organized by Jennie Borg

English: My son (Richard) has been chronically ill since 2017. He has Raynaud's syndrome and Buerger's disease, both of which are vascular disorders and cause poor blood circulation in his legs. Due to this disease, my son has had several amputations of his legs, first one toe was amputated and over the years another toe, and finally both his lower legs. After rehabilitation and learning to walk again, my son received both prostheses in early 2023 and that went reasonably well for six months, until he got a wound on his left stump in the summer of 2023. Because of this wound he can no longer use his left prosthesis, and due to his condition his wounds heal poorly or not at all, for which he has been going to the UMCG for years for check-ups and help. In 2024 my son also got wounds on his right stump, this was due to the fact that he had to put all his weight on his good stump when transferring to the toilet or his bed. As a result, he is now unable to use both prostheses and spends all day in a wheelchair, which causes back, hip and arm problems. In November 2024, Richard went to the hospital for a check-up appointment, because his wounds on both stumps are getting bigger every day and more and more wounds are appearing. Due to his condition, the wounds do not heal and turn black and eventually the wounds become necrotic, which means that his wounds actually start to rot. This hurts a lot and my son uses heavy painkillers that make him drowsy and sleepy during the day, which is why he has not been feeling well in recent months. In January 2025, he therefore decided to have another amputation, this time through the knee, so that he could get rid of the pain and misery, but it is never certain whether this will solve the problem. But because he has been living with this since 2024 and nothing can be done from the hospital, amputation is the only option. After this operation and rehabilitation, my son must get an adapted wheelchair because the chance of walking is small. Because he sits in this all day, it must be an adapted wheelchair so that he can easily get in and out. Because this is not reimbursed, he is afraid that he will soon be stuck at home with no view of the future, and he will also lose his freedom to go his own way independently inside and outside the home. Because an adapted, custom-made wheelchair is not reimbursed and he cannot do much or anything independently without a good wheelchair, I hope to be able to help and support in this way. So that Richard can manage independently in everyday life, and he can get a little fun back in his life. Read more
