Hello, my name is Bud, and I am reaching out to seek your support for my father-in-law, Marty. Marty was diagnosed with stage 3B muscle invasive bladder cancer. His condition has been severe, with his bladder being almost entirely overtaken by tumors. Marty has undergone two nephrostomy procedures to ease his discomfort and completed an intense chemotherapy regimen. He has just finished his surgery to remove his bladder and is now on the mend. However, his battle isn't over yet. Marty must now undergo radiation treatment to target cancer in his lymph nodes. When first diagnosed, Marty almost lost hope. But with the unwavering love and support of our family and some truly amazing doctors and nurses, he has regained his determination to fight this battle. However, the financial burden is immense, and we are facing numerous unexpected out-of-pocket expenses. Why We Need Your Help While Marty does have insurance, there are still many costs that are not covered. These include: Travel Expenses: The hospital is almost an hour away, and frequent trips for treatment are adding up in terms of gas and vehicle maintenance. Medical Supplies: Nephrostomy and ostomy supplies such as saline, bandages, tape, and bags are out-of-pocket expenses. Co-Pays and Medicines: Regular visits and medications come with significant co-pays and deductibles. How Your Donations Will Be Used Medical Deductibles and Co-Pays: To ensure Marty receives the necessary treatments and medications. Travel Expenses: For gas and vehicle maintenance to get Marty to his treatments. Medical Supplies: For necessary nephrostomy and ostomy supplies. Radiation Treatment Travel: Marty needs to travel to Columbia every weekday for 28 radiation treatments to target cancer in his lymph nodes. Recent Update (July 2024) Marty recently underwent surgery to remove his bladder and is now on the path to recovery. He now needs radiation treatments, requiring daily trips to Columbia for 28 sessions. The costs for gas, co-pays, and supplies are overwhelming.
