Hello! My name is Gommie and I am known as a poet-artist. I have travelled the UK extensively since 2019 making art based poetry about people, place and society. I would like to raise funds for the 3rd leg of my Great British Artistic Pilgrimage “Walkney”, wherein I walk from Berwick-On-Tweed to The Orkney Islands in an attempt to make a fresh new series of work documenting our times, inspired by the people I meet, the landscape I inhabit and the personal travails I may encounter. I would like to raise £5,000 as a survival fund. I will be sleeping in my trusty tent Laura while I am hiking, but my vast experience has taught me that in order to finish each piece to the high standard I have set for myself over the years, I need small chunks of time in Air B&Bs and hotels. They are not only a place to rest up, but a focused space for me to sharpen up the final stages of each piece. During the first leg of my Pilgrimage, which spanned from Dover to Newcastle, across Hadrian’s Wall, through the Lakes and around the coast of Wales for a period of two years, I learned that it is foolish to think you can travel, survive and make large scale colourful visual poetry all via a tent. You need rest points. This is what I need the money for. There are other costs, of course, but this is the main thing. It’s hugely important, and I don’t have to tell you - even when you are being modest- it adds up. I am now an experienced artist and rambler.
