Aloha, dear friends, I'm writing to you with a heavy heart, but also with immense love and gratitude. Our beloved Sahajo has passed on, but her spirit will live on in our hearts and memories forever. She left this world on Friday, October 4th, on Holomua Road, the place she called home for so many years. Sahajo was more than just a friend to me and my partner. She was a fiery German soul with a heart of gold, a true original who lived life on her own terms. Even in her final days, she had a spark in her eye, a glimmer of the hope and determination that defined her. She may have had little in material possessions, but she was rich in love, laughter, and a zest for life that was infectious. I still remember the day we first met, the way Sahajo's eyes lit up with a spark of hope in a system that had failed her for so long. From that moment on, we were destined to be friends, to create memories that I will cherish forever. I remember her first burger in seven years, the way her face lit up with joy. I remember her birthdays, indulging in her favorite German dishes and my uncle's French pastries. I remember our days floating in the ocean at Ho'okipa, watching the sunset over the water. These are the memories I will hold onto, the moments that made life worth living for Sahajo. Our journey was not without its challenges. I fought tirelessly to find Sahajo a home, to give her the stability and security she deserved. But even when the system failed her once again, her spirit remained unbroken. She continued to be a source of light, earning the nickname "butterfly" as she helped us build a garden of hope at Pu'uhonua. Her determination to fight for justice, to make the world a better place, was inspiring, even in the face of adversity. Through it all, I was by Sahajo's side, offering what comfort I could. Because that's what you do for the ones you love, no matter what. Sahajo taught me that, and for that, I will be eternally grateful. She may be gone, but the lessons she taught me, the love she showed me, will live on in my heart forever. Sahajo may have had little in material possessions, but the gifts she gave me were priceless - tokens of the deep affection she held in her heart. Now, as I mourn her passing, I cling to these reminders of our bond, of the love we shared. I find comfort in the memories of our time together, in the knowledge that she is at peace. But even in death, Sahajo's spirit lives on. She would want us to continue fighting for justice, to keep building a world that is more compassionate, more equitable. She would want us to keep loving, to keep giving, to keep shining our light. And that is exactly what we will do, in her honor, in her memory. Sahajo had no funds, but she was rich in community, in love. And now, we come together as a community to give her the green burial she deserves. A green burial, also known as a natural or eco-friendly burial, is a type of funeral that aims to have a minimal environmental impact. It allows the body to decompose and return to nature, to be recycled back into the earth as Sahajo would have wanted. But it costs nearly $10,000 on Maui, and that is why we need your help.
