About Our Campaign, Us, and More
Here’s the tl:dr - we have worked hard to create a space that centers the experience of diverse sexualities, abilities, bodies and brains. We are mental and physical health professionals who create individual and community opportunities for underserved populations. And we are expanding our ability to do this by meeting the goals of this campaign:
BUY the building that has become our professional home,
BUILD the resources that create access for clients and community in that space,
GROW the resources that clients can have access to there,
and continue to SUPPORT the communities we serve.
Our over-arching goal is to create a space that meets the needs of all our clients and practitioners. This includes adapting some of the building, which was built in the early 20th century, to incorporate principles of universal design.
Making minor interior changes will allow us to have both a waiting room and an additional office, without needing to disturb classes and events happening in our existing waiting room.
Adding an outdoor room in the rear of the property will allow us to hold larger events, as well as take advantage of pleasant weather (even when it may rain).
Ultimately, all of these will contribute to more access for our community and clients in need.
What we are already doing
Creating therapy opportunities for clients with financial need - Less than 10% of our clients pay full fee for our services. All others receive discounts from 25-75% off their bills.
Specializing in the needs of sexually marginalized populations - LGBTQIQA+, polyamory and consensual non-monogamy, consensual power exchange and kink, asexual spectrum, trans and gender nonconforming, sex therapy, etc.
Create opportunities for community engagement in a safe space - groups, movement classes, film screenings, etc.
Training mental health professionals (and the public) in affirming treatment for marginalized populations.
Meeting the needs of neurodiverse clients for affirming treatment - we do not see clients as inherently broken, but rather as needing support to exist in a world designed for allistic individuals.
Addressing discrimination in mental and physical health, creating safety for clients and helping push back against medical stigma, fat-phobia, gaslighting of neurodiverse individuals, and sexually marginalized clients.
Our fundraising will support our capital growth goals including buying our building, adding offices and an outdoor event space, increasing access for clients in need, and working towards adding psychiatric services to the practice.
The Impact
How will your donation impact you, us, our businesses and the world?
The most important answer is that the more we are able to cover with donation funds, the more reduced fee services we are able to make available to clients. Our goal is to expand the number of reduced-fee clients that we can see, and keeping our costs manageable allows us to do this.
Your donation will increase access for members of communities you may be a part of. If you are one of our beloved community, thank you for your interest and participation!
Accomplishing these goals will also let us continue moving towards other future goals, which include more training for mental and other health professionals, more community events, more providers available, and more FUN events at the practice!

What We Have, What We Need & What You Get
Our goal in this campaign is to match the $30,000 deposit that we have already put together in order to purchase the building. We also have provisional bank support for the purchase, and a contractor retained to make the necessary additions.
We have set this number as our goal because it would allow us to speed up the process of changes to the office like adding more interior space, rewiring existing offices, adding fans to the community room - all the bits and pieces that come with making the space ours.
Every dollar that is donated will go towards these changes - the businesses are not carrying debt or operating in the red. In fact, they are thriving, so much so that we have been able to save the deposit for the building within the past year!
What you get:
All donors, at any level, will be listed on an art piece that will be installed in our community room (which we refer to as The Rainbow Room).
All donors will also be invited to our Community Open House event once the renovations are complete. We plan to hold a BIG PARTY, so this is a great way to get access!
Risks & Challenges
Realistically, there remain several risks in this process, though we have done everything we can to prevent these from happening:
Financial - there is always a risk that the SBA loan cannot be finalized until another year of tax returns have been filed (2024 looks to be our most lucrative year ever!)
If this happens we would have to move the closing date on the building to early 2025.
Purchase - we have a signed lease-purchase agreement with the current owner, so there is very little risk that we are unable to purchase the property easily. That said, should the owner attempt to renege on this agreement, we would have to work through our lawyer to ensure this contract is honored.
What if we don’t reach our entire goal?
No matter how much we raise, all of the funds will be put towards the renovations projects described. We have contingency plans that will allow us to finance these projects over a longer term if needed.
It is also important to note that the changes we have planned will happen no matter how much we raise. We are going to make this dream come true, but we hope you will help us get there sooner rather than later!
Who We Are
StorieBrook Therapy and Consulting is a private practice established in 2007.
The mission of our practice is to provide a range of services specializing in sexual, gender & relational diversity. We recognize that this is an expansive category, intersecting with all other identities and requiring bespoke collaboration with clients to meet their needs. Our practice values include access, anti-racism, body liberation, collaboration, cultural humility, public & professional education, inclusion & affirmation, social justice, and trauma informed care.
We offer a range of services, including individual and relationship counseling, assessments for gender-affirming care, autism assessment, sex therapy, and neurodiverse-affirming care. Our sliding-fee and low cost therapy offerings help make these available to more clients in need, and we are passionate about meeting the needs of marginalized communities.
In addition to client-facing services, we also provide training to other mental health professionals, mental health trainees, and to the public. The practice also has a dedicated community room where we host groups, film screenings, yoga and movement classes, etc.
While our practice has been in existence for 17 years, we expanded significantly in 2022, increasing from a solo practitioner, to having 3 providers. We also moved the practice (after the pandemic) to a space that would allow us to offer both in-person and virtual services, and to continue to build the business. In 2023 we became the sole tenants of this space, and we have an agreement with the current owner to purchase the building before the end of 2024.
