Hi everyone! My name is Francine Diaz, and I’m proud to honor my brother Jhonatan’s legacy through my organization, Live Like Jay. From January 13th to January 20th, I’ll be traveling to Ecuador to distribute gifts to children in need, celebrating Día de los Reyes and spreading the holiday spirit. This mission will take me to Chunchi, Alausí, and Guamote in the province of Chimborazo, where I’ll bring joy to families in underserved communities.
Jhonatan was an incredible person—someone who lived with a generous heart and a giving spirit. Whether it was helping a friend, supporting education, or caring for his community, Jhonatan always put others first. Tragically, he passed away on December 23, 2021, due to medical malpractice. This time of year has been especially hard for my family, but through Live Like Jay, we’ve found a way to reframe the holidays. Instead of focusing on loss, we celebrate Jhonatan’s life by giving back to others, just as he always did.
Live Like Jay began as a tribute to Jhonatan’s memory, starting with raising over $10,000 to adopt a bench and plaque in Central Park through the NYC ADOPT-A-BENCH program, benefiting the park conservancy. Over time, we’ve grown into an organization dedicated to acts of kindness and community service, including:
Organizing clothing donation drives for orphanages in Ecuador.
Volunteering at food banks to help families in need in Pennsylvania.
Rescuing and rehoming over 45 stray cats through our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiative in New Jersey.
This upcoming trip to Ecuador is a continuation of Jhonatan’s legacy of generosity. I’ll be sharing daily updates on our Instagram page @LiveLikeJayDiaz so you can follow along on this meaningful journey. Together, we’ll bring smiles to children’s faces and make the holidays brighter for those who need it most.

Jhonatan era una persona excepcional, con un corazón generoso y un espíritu solidario. Siempre estaba dispuesto a ayudar a quien lo necesitara, ya fuera apoyando la educación, ayudando a un amigo o contribuyendo a su comunidad. Lamentablemente, Jhonatan falleció el 23 de diciembre de 2021 debido a una negligencia médica. Para mi familia, esta época del año ha sido difícil, pero a través de Live Like Jay, hemos encontrado una manera de transformar el dolor en esperanza.
