Day after day, I witnessed heart-wrenching scenes: emaciated animals, abandoned on the streets and struggling to survive. My name is Kajetan, I am 35 years old and moved from Austria to Colombia. Besides my daily work I dedicated my heart and time to help abandoned animals in the Amazon, especially in Leticia and Tabatinga. The streets here tell a grim story. Pregnant cats and dogs are often abandoned in the jungle or worse, killed. Injured animals, left untreated, roam the streets, vulnerable to further harm. Those that can't move fast enough often fall victim to bicycles, cars and motorcycles. The sight and smell of dead animals on the roadside are all too common, also in my suburb. Parasites and skin conditions run rampant due to poor sanitation, and the desperate solution of using used motoroil as a treatment only exacerbates their suffering. Internal ailments like diarrhea and fever go untreated because of the lack of funds for veterinary care and medicine. Moved by these tragic realities, I've opened my home to a few foster animals, offering them the love and care they deserve. But this is just the beginning of our plans for foster homes. To persue our dream of a combination of people helping animals and vice versa, we'll need to reach for the stars and set the bar much higher. Once we reached our first step, our vision is alrady in here and shall include: Housing for foster animals Start an NGO and continue with a bigger mission Employ local people and get a team of volunteers to assist in the daily care of the animals. Launch a proyect to teach children the importance of care for animals and much more. Let's be the change they desperately need and join me in making a difference.
