Description du projet SYNOPSIS Ali, un jeune Afghan de 28 ans, a dû trouver refuge au Canada avec sa famille en octobre 2021, ciblé par les Talibans revenus au pouvoir en Afghanistan. La raison : pendant la guerre, il a travaillé comme cuisinier sur le camp Nathan Smith, à Kandahar, où se trouvait des troupes canadiennes. Parmi les soldats qui y ont passé, on retrouve Martin Forgues, aujourd'hui journaliste, essayiste et documentariste indépendant, avec qui Ali avait gardé contact au fil des années. Martin a ainsi pu aider Ali à s'extirper des griffes des Talibans en facilitant son départ d'Afghanistan et sa venue au Canada. Mais l'histoire d'Ali raconte beaucoup plus qu'il n'en parait : vingt ans après le 11 septembre 2001, dans quel monde vit-on désormais? Origine du projet En tant que journaliste mais aussi vétéran de la guerre d'Afghanistan, Martin Forgues a développé une relation intime avec ce pays dont il admire la richesse historique et culturelle, mais surtout son peuple, résilient et noble. Mais il avait déjà appréhendé le retour des Talibans et la défaite de l'OTAN dès 2014 dans son premier essai "L'Afghanicide : cette guerre qu'on ne voulait pas gagner".
